He started drawing on the wardrobes at home when he was two-and-a-half, and his parents decided to put a large blackboard on the wall in his bedroom so that he could express himself freely. Then came the canvases, big brushes and colours.
Leonardo plays with paint and paints while playing: he shares his love with his parents who support him, teach him and stimulate him every day.
With total freedom to express himself, he paints everything he learns at school – letters, numbers, countries, but also his favourite heroes, animals, monsters and cranes – in large scale.
His style, despite having no references, reminds us of Basquiat's neo-expressionism: the use and mixture of different materials and techniques and themes ... everything can be mixed and exist together in one of his paintings.
Leonardo has an Instagram account managed by his father, which is gaining more followers and interest every day. That’s why they have decided to show and sell some of their sons’ pieces, at the same time as doing their bit for a charitable cause.
Plom Gallery is the first gallery of contemporary art aimed at children.
It exhibits and sells works by adult artists chosen especially to stimulate the creativity and imagination of little ones.
The gallery is in Barcelona and is about to turn 5 years old, the same age as Leonardo.
Martha Zimmermann is its founder and director.
JESÚS DE MIGUEL
Jesús de Miguel’s work proposes a trip to his own universe. The expressiveness of his strokes and colours allows us to glimpse something beyond the initial impression, a vibrant and luminous world that persuades and seduces the spectator. Through his art, in which he is not afraid to approach large formats, the child artist of disparate references gives life to an absolutely personal language.
In the activities of Saturday 17 November, Jesús presents an art workshop focused on little ones. A large work of art will be painted on the floor, in which the children will lose the reference of form and drawing by their nearness to the oversized image. The surprise will come when, with distance, they will realize that the result is not the composition they thought they were drawing – no doubt making it a fun and interesting experience.
KUBUKA means to wake up, take a step forward, start living. It was born from the drive of a group of young people who decided to start a social project in Kenya and Zambia in 2013.
Its mission is to create sustainable development focusing on entrepreneurship and education as a driver of change, supporting projects that are born and survive over time thanks to the effort and empowerment of the beneficiary community.
Our job has been to identify projects that can be maintained over time and are supported by local people or groups. In Spain, we carry out awareness talks and look for collaborators in a range of different entrepreneurs. We want to bring the world of cooperation to our society through events and volunteering.
20% of the profits raised from the sale of Leonardo's paintings will go to Lisha Children's Home, a foster home that the organization has in Kenya for orphaned children.
ART U READY
ART U READY is a visibility platform for artists with a transversal and circumferential view. A hub that connects artists, collectors, and curious members of the public with one objective: to form a line of thinking between design, architecture and art. The platform opens unique spaces typically not accessible to the public in the centre of Madrid to present contemporary artists, the majority of which are emerging, of different disciplines.
